I know it may seem like this Blog is a broken-record when it comes to the elections:
McCain = BAD ANTI-CHOICER, Obama = GOOD PRO-CHOICER!
And I get that, but I also know that the second we assume people know the McCain is anti-choice is the second we get another four years of an anti-choice presidency… so I, for one, will not let up.
Take, for example, last Friday’s AP article, “McCain blasts Obama for women’s rights criticism.” Evidently, McCain doesn’t like being publically called out for his dismal record on judicial appointments. Well, that’s too bad.
Over on the Obama campaign’s blog community, Ann Brewer hits the highlights (erm, lowlights?) of McCain’s record and philosophy on judges:
In short, if you want to know about McCain’s philosophy on judges, just ask right-wing activist Gary Bauer:
“I wanted a commitment from either George Bush or John McCain that if elected he would appoint pro-life judges to the Supreme Court… Bush said he had no litmus test, and his judges would be strict constructionists. But McCain, in private, assured me he would appoint pro-life judges.”
- Gary Bauer, a social conservative politician who endorsed McCain in his 2000 presidential bid, The New Yorker, May 2005
See how critical it is that NARAL Pro-Choice America is there to correct misinformation and spread the word?
Remember, you can help! You can start by telling your friends that Sen. Obama is pro-choice by sending them an e-card!

Janet Folger Legislator: Law allows banishment of Bible ‘This is written so anybody can take any part and grow it into monstrosity’ Posted: July 01, 2008 9:05 pm Eastern By Bob Unruh WorldNetDaily Author Janet Folger at a news conference announcing a campaign to challenge Colorado’s new anti-’discrimination’ law A lawmaker in Colorado who challenged the authors of SB200, a new law that bans discrimination based on the “perception” of gender, contends it was written to give a wide open door to anyone who wants to banish Christian beliefs or the Bible. “This is so loaded. It’s written in an open-ended fashion that anybody can take just about any part of it and grow it into a huge monstrosity,” state Rep. Kevin Lundberg told WND today. “It was written with intentional [vagueness].” He spoke with WND after a news conference at which a number of groups and organizations announced

On June 25, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked conservative commentator Bill Bennett what question he would ask Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama if he could. Bennett said he would ask Obama: Why are you to the left of NARAL, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein when it comes to abortion? Are you really there?…. I got to question the guy’s moral judgment who doesn’t see a problem with killing a baby after it’s been born…. What is the answer to that question? Bennett was speaking about Obama’s opposition to Illinois’ Born Alive Infants Protection Act as state senator…. (To which Obama defender Donna Brazile responded, “Bill, you want to have a conversation about narrow issues… but the American people want to talk about gas prices….”) Over the years, Obama or his surrogates have mischaracterized Illinois’ Born Alive Act and his reasons for opposing it at least 10 different ways. But Obama’s most

I know some of you are tiring of election-related items on this blog, but as you know, this is an extremely important election year. So, it’s imperative that we educate Americans on anti-choice Sen. McCain AND pro-choice Sen. Obama with every chance we get.
That said, here is another example of Obama highlighting the difference between him and McCain on choice:
TAPPER: John McCain is aggressively going after women’s vote, especially former supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton. He said he’ll be a better president for them. Your response?
OBAMA: Well, I’m glad that John McCain is going after women. I think that everybody should go after every voter.
I think John McCain is going to have trouble making the case, when on almost every single issue that’s important to women, he’s been on the wrong side. You know, he is in favor of judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade. He has opposed equal pay. He has opposed the CHIP program, that would make children insured.
He has opposed efforts to protect women against some of the discrimination that they experience in the workplace. You know, that’s not going to be a track record that I think is going to be very appealing to women.
Watch the interview (portions of the segment on women begin at 1:27 seconds in) which takes snippets of this transcript.

I know our readers are aware of how painfully anti-choice Sen. McCain is. And, yes, we’ve been doing a lot of squawking about how many pro-choice Americans still don’t know this (as hard as that may be for many of us to believe).
The problem is, we’re right. And our recent poll shows this conclusively.
This week NARAL Pro-Choice America released a poll of swing voters from 12 presidential battleground states. These swing voters are pro-choice Independent and Republican women, and what’s ’swinging’ them from McCain to Obama is choice. Check this out:
- Choice is the top issue for moving these key audiences to Obama, trumping other traditional Democratic issues and attacks on McCain.
- Among key voting blocs of pro-choice Independent and Republican women, McCain’s anti-choice record concerns them more than attacks on his economic plan and his position on the war in Iraq.
Take a peek at the great coverage the poll received with U.S. News & World Report, Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Chicago Tribune, and Daily Kos.
These pro-choice swing voters are key in securing a victory for Obama in the fall - and they desperately need to be educated about McCain’s anti-choice stance in order for that to happen.
So, please, do a little squawking of your own - the truth shall set us free! (Literally - because you can kiss your freedom and privacy goodbye if McCain is elected.)

I just love a good victory! As Matt Singer wrote yesterday CI-100 will not qualify for the ballot!
For those not living in Montana and/or not familiar with CI-100, CI-100 would have put women’s lives and health at risk. It would have allowed politicians not women, their families, or their doctors to decide what’s best for Montana women. And it could have outlawed not only abortion, but birth control, stem-cell research, and in-vitro fertilization, too. Thankfully, Montanans sent a message that a dangerous and divisive amendment like CI-100 has no place in their state.
Friday, June 20 was the deadline for the backers of CI-100 to present enough signatures to qualify the amendment for the ballot, and yesterday we learned that they failed… miserably!
You can read more about it in today’s Missoulian.
As a partner in Montanan’s for Safe and Healthy Families, NARAL Pro-Choice Montana, the only grassroots organization in Montana dedicated solely to protecting your reproductive rights and freedoms, organized activists to volunteer at polling places, spoke to various clubs and groups, answered calls from confused citizens, and really worked hard to build a statewide movement of Montanans who will stand up for the values of freedom and privacy.
If you live in Montana and want to sign-up to volunteer, click here to sign up!
